The Surf Lodge is a boutique hotel and bar with an artist-in-residence program. In need of an art space, PLOT-1 converted two storage rooms into a new studio and gallery. A new commercial kitchen was introduced and an interior bar was opened up to allow the beautiful vibes to flow in and the drinks to flow out.
On a corner lot, perched above the ocean, PLOT-1 created the perfect summer enclave for this bi-coastal family. A wrapping wooden screen gives way to a massive outdoor shower and built-in surfboard rack, allowing for privacy after a swim in the pool or a long day at the beach. A new stair connects all three levels and gives the family room to spread out. Clad in cypress and with ipe decks, the house will age gracefully and develop a beautiful grey patina.
This custom home takes advantage of a double lot to create an oasis in the most desirable beach neighborhood in town. Kitchen and living spaces are oriented towards a sunny and private back yard. A lofted garage doubles as a work and play space. Passive heating and a wood burning stove ensure the family can enjoy the house in all seasons.
This small beach side cottage already had good scale and a simple layout, but needed some attention and a fresh makeover. The home’s original brick fireplace and wooden rafters were maintained; however, the original windows were replaced with expansive panes of glass to ensure clear, unobstructed views of the waves. Plastic shingles were exchanged for cedar siding, perfectly capturing the feel of the outdoors. A custom master bedroom and en-suite bathroom features a freestanding tub positioned to ensure a clear view of the garden. A new kitchen and custom outdoor dining setup ensures many summer nights shared with family and friends.
